My working days are relatively monotonous, always the same, that’s what I keep thinking…but what if I have a closer look? Might there be differences? Isn’t there anything what makes them different? Something I can be thankful for or be happy about? Since I had read about the “a day in the life” workshop from Ali Edwards, I wanted to try it. She documents regularily one day in her life, with all the routine and the special moments. But I kept thinking that my life, especially the working days, is too uniform with a lot of routine…and without big surprises or special moments…different than you have it with children or pets. While visiting Sarah (charlypaperlove) we talked about this topic and decided to document such a day together…the same day, everyone where he is. At the “crop into May” Julia (pieces for happiness) and Frau Bergmolch decided to join in as well.
On that specific day everything needed to be photographed, the special things but also the routines…before work, that was relatively easy…and then I am only sitting at the computer. What should I photograph and document for 8 hours? But there was something…one funny moment with the colleage, a short break etc.
Occasionally, I forgot to take a photo of one or the other moment…especially when it was more important. Hence, I did not take a photo of exactly that moment but of the result, a document, in my bag.
My colleagues wondered why I am taking that many photos. In this case this was also because I resigned the day before, but not exclusively…I told them about this project and then they also started to take photos, supporting me…sometimes also without me noticing it.
Commuting by public transport is a daily adventure. It looks like routine, but one day you have to run to get the connection, then you have to change the track, a train earlier or later…or as this day walk home for approx. 1 km (0.6 miles).
It was wonderful to see via whatsapp what the other 3 were up to and to be part of their day in that way. And this also reminded me to take a photo. Thank you some much, Sarah, Julia and Eileen!
Afterwards, I realized that I am living fully in the moment when something important is happening. And I also recognized that my daily routine is a bit different every day and also bears some surprises. I just have to look closer. It was really worth looking closer into my daily routine and realize all the things and moments that happen there. I would like to document the next June 2nd again. Already looking forward to what will happen then.
